An existing quay may face new demands through changes in use, heavier traffic or visible wear over time. In other cases, specific damage or functional issues make a closer assessment necessary.
Photographs, older drawings and any previous assessments of the facility are often useful for an initial review. They provide a better picture of both the current situation and what may warrant further investigation.
Rehabilitation is not a single standard measure that suits every facility. The right approach must be assessed for each quay based on its structure, use and the requirements it will need to meet in the future.
